ALEXANDRIA, La. - The Civil War is an important part of the history of the Alexandria/Pineville area. Being a farming community, the cash crop, cotton, was in high demand. The locals wanted to protect themselves, and what was left of the land and crops, from a second Union attack, after the first attack left Alexandria burning.
