The chart above shows annual fossil fuel production in the U.S. from 1947 to 2012 based on data from the Department of Energy ( here and here). After rising above 56 quadrillion BTUs for the first time in 1969, domestically produced fossil fuels (coal, natural gas and oil) stayed relatively flat ("peaked") for the next forty years in a range between 56 and 60 quadrillion BTUs.
