Ft. Point was saved from demolition by Strauss who saw it as a work of art. He decided to build an arch over it. #ggb

Construction on the south tower of the #GGB begins in 1933, extending out from historic Ft. Point.

Charles Ellis was the #GGB principal engineer, working with Moisseiff, but didn't get credit for his work until 2007.

SF locals urged Morrow to paint the #GGB a quirky International Orange. The Navy wanted black and white stripes.

A later Moisseiff design, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, collapsed in 1940 because of unexpected aeroelastic flutter. #ggb
